State/UTs in General Elections 2019
Indian democracy is witness to the active participation of women in electoral politics since the
dawn of independence. Steady increase has been seen in the number of women who contest
for Lok Sabha in every general election.

78 women members got elected to 17 Lok Sabha in 2019, highest since the 1 general elections.
Total of 726 women candidates had contested in 2019 general elections, Uttar Pradesh had
highest women candidates, 106; followed by 79 women candidates in Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu
had 67 women candidates; Bihar had 56 while West Bengal had 54.
