52. Total Number of Seats of Elections in Lok


                                    Sabha (1951-52 to 2019)






        Since the first general elections held in 1951-52, the geography of India has been divided in more

        than 400 constituencies, taking into consideration the wide range of differences of topography
        and demography. Since 1951-52, the number of seats in Lok Sabha has increased to 543 in 2019
        from 489 in the first general elections. Below is the data of the number of seats for elections in

        Lok Sabha since 1951-52 to 2019.

























































        * Up to 1957 election, certain constituencies were representing 02 or 03 seats.
        ** In General Elections 1980 (7th Lok Sabha) the Elections on 12 seats of Assam & 01 seat of Meghalaya were
        not held along with whole country.
        *** In General Elections, 1984 (8th Lok Sabha) the Elections on 14 seats of Assam & 13 seats of Punjab were held
        in 1985.
        **** In General Elections ,1989 (9th Lok Sabha) the Elections on 14 seats of Assam were not held.
        ***** In General Elections 1991 (10th Lok Sabha) the Elections on 13 seats of Punjab & 06 seats of Jammu &
        Kashmir were not held.
        ***** In General Elections 1991 (10th Lok Sabha) the Elections on 02 seats of Bihar & 01 seat of UP were not
        completed.
