31. Winners of 2019 General Elections 2019
The general elections are one of the most important occasions for Indian democracy, as it’s the
electoral exercise which send people’s representative to Lok Sabha from across the nation. Since
the first general elections in 1951-52 to 2019, the lower house of parliament has been enriched
with people from a vast variety of social backgrounds, who have actively contributed towards
strengthening the democratic foundations of India.
Out of the total 543 candidates who got elected to seventeenth Lok Sabha in 2019, 397 belonged
to national parties, while 140 to state parties, while rest of them won on tickets of registered
unrecognized political parties.
With 303 winning candidates, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the largest party in
seventeenth Lok Sabha; followed by 52 candidates winning from Indian National Congress (INC).
The largest number of candidates who won from state parties was 24 from Dravida Munnetra
Kazhagam (DMK) in the state of Tamil Nadu; followed by 22 winning candidates of Yuvajana
Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) from Andhra Pradesh.
The highest winning margin was recorded by Sh. CR Patil of BJP from Navsari in Gujarat, who
won with a margin of 6,89,668 votes (52.73%). Lowest victory margin was recorded by Sh.
Bholanath (B.P. Saroj) of BJP who won Machhlishahr constituency of Uttar Pradesh with a margin
of 181 votes (0.02 %).
A total of 78 female candidates won in 2019 general elections, highest since first Lok Sabha. This

includes the youngest MP of 17 Lok sabha, Ms. Chandrani Murmu, an engineering graduate
who won from Keonjhar constituency in Odisha reserved for ST category.
