17. Participation of Women Electors in General

Elections 2019

The women of India have not only participated in strengthening Indian democracy by entering
active politics as elected law members, but also by enthusiastically participating in the voting
exercise as well. In 2019, women voters across India participated in general elections in large
numbers. The number of women electors in 2019 general election was 43,85,37,911; which was

48.09% of the total number of electors. The number of women voters in 2019 general elections
was 29,46,24,323; which was 47.93% of the total voters.

With 6,70,55,997 women electors, the state of Uttar Pradesh had highest number of women
voters, followed by 4,22,49,192 women electors in Maharashtra. The highest percentage of
women electors amongst the total electors was in the union territory of Puducherry, 52.78%;

followed by 51.05% in Goa.

Highest number of women voters in 2019 general elections was in Uttar Pradesh, 3,99,40,959;
followed by 2,78,49,638 women voters in West Bengal. Highest percentage of women voters

amongst the overall voters in 2019 general elections was 52.95% in Puducherry, followed by
52.40% in Daman & Diu. The overall data regarding the participation of women electors in 2019
