7. Empowering the Electoral Process: Enhanced
Security and Streamlined Procedures for EPIC
The Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC), introduced by the Election Commission of India in 1993,
has been a cornerstone in safeguarding the electoral process against impersonation and fraud.
To adapt to evolving technologies and enhance the electoral management process, the
Commission has introduced new and robust security features for EPIC.
New Security Features
In a proactive move to bolster security, the Election Commission has incorporated several
advanced features into the EPIC. These enhancements include the integration of a QR Code,
Ghost Image, Ghost EPIC number, and Hologram, reinforcing the card's integrity and thwarting
potentially fraudulent activities.
Introduction of New Forms
Apart from that, a host of new forms have been introduced. Recognizing the significance of
maintaining a pure electoral roll for ensuring free and fair elections, the Commission has
introduced a series of new forms. These forms address specific aspects to streamline the
electoral process and improve accuracy.
These recent advancements signify the Election Commission's commitment to ensuring a
transparent, secure, and inclusive electoral process. The integration of advanced security
features and streamlined forms not only enhances the credibility of the EPIC but also simplifies
procedures for voters, empowering the electoral system by making it more resilient and
responsive to the needs of the diverse electorate.
