Barriers and Redressal

Barriers for PwDs in electoral participation include difficulties in voter registration,
inaccessible materials, inadequate voter education, physical access issues at polling
stations, and the absence of appropriate assistance. Addressing these barriers is

crucial to encourage PwDs to exercise their right to vote.

Directions and Guidelines of the Commission

The Election Commission provides directions focusing on areas such as
identification of PwDs, facilitation in voter registration, minimum facilities at polling

stations, involvement of NGOs, system sensitization, use of technology, political
party cooperation, and comprehensive statistical databases.

SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation)

Voter education and outreach for PwDs are integral parts of the SVEEP plans. Areas

of coverage include designating officers for Assembly Constituencies, wide publicity
through various modes, organizing special/mobile camps, preparing volunteers for
awareness, and enhancing publicity about services offered.
